Ryerson University

Ryerson University is the largest primarily undergraduate university in Canada, with 700 full time faculty members, 21 000 undergraduate and 700 graduate students. Offering more than 80 degree programs, which include 18 graduate degrees, Ryerson's growing research activities have a strong applied focus.

Research Areas:

Research programs at Ryerson extend to a broad range of disciplines and span the Faculties of Arts, Business, Communication and Design, Community Service and Engineering, Architecture and Applied Science.

Health and Well Being and the Environment are two areas of particular focus in Ryerson’s Strategic Plan and reflect interdisciplinary and applied research. Ryerson has established research in several areas relevant to Biodiscovery Toronto, including two Canada Research Chairs in bio-related fields:

Research Centres:

Facilities / Services:

  • Heat Transfer Research Lab - basic and applied research on a variety of problems involving heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid flow.
  • Robotics & Manufacturing Automation Lab - An interdisciplinary laboratory for advancing robotics and manufacturing automation. Brings together Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial, Biomedical, Electrical-Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, MEMS, and Computer Science.
  • The Ryerson University Analytical Centre - a state-of-the-art suite of scientific instruments offering a wide range of capabilities for (bio)chemical analyses. These include HPLC, GC, GC/MS, GC/Headspace, FTIR, UV-VIS, Luminescence Spectroscopy, and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, powder x-ray diffraction and Clean Room (analytical trace element) Facilities. 
  • Advanced Microscopy Facility - includes a two-photon confocal laser scanning microscope, a Raman confocal microscope, and an atomic force microscope, Scanning Electon Microscopy with energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy and coating facility, an inverted laser-confocal microscope suitable for live-cell imaging and an epiflurescence microscope.
